Our New Biosecurity System Protecting Our Farm Starts with Water

At Kouloumbri Farm biosecurity is not a new concept that recently surfaced. It is a daily practice directly linked to our value of caring for our animals and the responsibility we feel toward the people who trust us. We believe that prevention is the only way to ensure the health of our farm.

What Biosecurity Means in Practice

Biosecurity means identifying and limiting every possible source of contamination before it becomes a problem. One of the most critical points on a farm is the water. To ensure its purity we chose to install closed type water troughs with a special ball system at the opening.

This choice offers significant advantages for the hygiene of our facilities. The system allows access to water only by our cows preventing contact with birds dogs or cats that could carry diseases. At the same time the way they function acts as a form of enrichment for the cows supporting the calm environment in which they live.

Learning from Challenges

Recent events with the outbreak of foot and mouth disease reminded all of us how important and at the same time how vulnerable livestock farming is in Cyprus. These challenges make us even more careful and persistent in the standards we set.

We do not see biosecurity as an obligation but as an essential tool for protecting our work and the quality of our produce. It is part of our promise to produce with honesty and clear standards.

A Collective Responsibility

Biosecurity is not a simple choice but a necessity for the future of our production. The responsibility is collective and starts with the daily actions we take within the farm.

We continue to invest in systems and routines that put the welfare of our animals and the safety of consumers above all else.
